Marshall leads Warriors to thrilling comeback win

TURLOCK – Andreanna Marshall had another career night, this time with 30 points, as she led the Warriors in a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Humboldt State, 81-78, Saturday night.

With the weekend sweep, the Warriors improve to 2-2 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association and 3-3 overall.  Humboldt State fell to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in the CCAA.

Marshall more than doubled her previous career high entering the weekend with 30 points Saturday night.  The senior guard from Panorama City capitalized on the free throw line, converting 18 of her 20 chances to go with her six field goals. Marshall was also a huge asset aside from shooting with five rebounds, four steals, and 3 assists.

"Andreanna showed a lot of leadership tonight," says Stanislaus head coach Sharon Turner. "That was what I was looking for from her. This is something our team needs, especially from a senior."

Senior center Katie Busi contributed offensively with 19 points despite being in foul trouble most of the game. She also had seven rebounds. Freshmen Lauren Godde chipped seven points with 15 boards.  Rosa Tirado also knocked in seven points.

Both teams battled for control of the game throughout the entire first half.  The Lumberjacks took a seven point lead at the break after making four three-pointers in the final five minutes and shooting 45 percent from the arch in the first half.

"Humboldt is a really good team and they shoot really well from the perimeter," added coach Turner.

The Lumberjacks kept a slight lead over the Warriors for most of the second half until a foul by Lumberjack Taylor Kilgore that put guard Christin Gowan on the line for two free points.  Shortly after, Stanislaus took the lead after a drive to the basket by Marshall with 1:23 in regulation.

Over the final three and a half minutes in the game, the Warriors' defense kept the Jacks down while using a 14-3 run to turn a six-point deficit into a five point lead with 17 seconds left to play.

Still, the Lumberjacks charged by with a three pointers by Kilgore to make it a two point game with three seconds left to play.

Marshall then took an inbounds pass, converted on one of two free throws with two ticks remaining, and stolen the HSU inbounds play to end the game.

Humboldt State' Jeanette Dewitt led with 16 points and nine rebounds.  Kilgore and Catie Richards were both strong from the arch with 14 and 13 points, respectively.  Bree Halsey also recorded nine rebounds on the night.

The Warriors will be playing in the CCAA/PacWest Challenge at San Francisco State next weekend.
