Orlando, Fla. - Tampa freshman guard Lindsey Watson has been recognized as the Sunshine State Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending December 5. The nod mark's the second-consecutive Spartan to be named with such honors in the 2010-11 season.
Watson a native of Apopka, Fla. led the Spartans to two victories, including a conference-opening win at Barry. Watson averaged 25.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest. She began the week with 34 points tabbing the second highest single-game scoring record in Spartan history going 9-18 from the field while also collecting four rebounds, four assists, two steals, and a block in a 67-63 win over Valdosta State. In her career performance, the five-foot-seven guard took the number one spot in Tampa history tallying the most points scored in a half as she hit 5-6 from behind the arc ending the period with 24. She then tallied 16 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a steal in a 71-57 victory against the Buccaneers. For the week, she converted 50 percent (16-of-32) of her field goal attempts, 58 percent (7-of-12) of her three-point attempts, and 92 percent (11-of-12) of her free throws.
