Orangeburg, NY (12/18/10) The Le Moyne College women's basketball team completed the season series sweep of host Dominican College this afternoon with a 66-60 victory in a no-conference game held on Coach Baxter Court at the Hennessy Center.
Le Moyne opened the game by taking a 10-4 lead with 16:56 left in the first half and led 30-24 with 3:46 to go before the intermission. Back-to-back baskets from forward Marley Klunk (York, PA) and guard Lindsey Lopez (Elmwood Park, NJ) pulled Dominican within two points (30-28) with a minute and a half left, but a Dolphin bucket with 0:06 on the clock gave them a 32-28 advantage going into the break.
The Dolphins held a 59-49 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the second stanza when a 7-0 spurt by the Lady Chargers cut the lead to three points (59-56) with 2:51 left in regulation and led 63-60 with just under a minute left. DC was forced to foul and Le Moyne went 3-4 in the final 51 ticks of the clock to secure the 66-60 victory.
Sophomore guard Shannon Lavelle (Floral Park, NY) led the Lady Chargers with 18 points. Klunk finished with nine points, while Lopez added eight points and three assists. Freshman KC Jentzen (Pearl River, NY) scored seven points and nine rebounds in the loss. Senior Jasmine Schinella (Wappinger Falls, NY) also tallied nine caroms.
24 of DC's 60 points came off the bench in the loss as the team shot 33.9% (20-59) from the floor and 27.8% (5-18) from three point range. The team was better from the charity stripe, going 15-22 (68.2%).
Le Moyne had three players in double figures, led by Courtney Coryea (Mooers Forks, NY) with 17 points, shooting 6-10 from the field. As a team the Dolphins were 21-50 (42.0%) from the floor and shot 40.9% (9-22) from the three point arc, while going 15-18 (82.3%) from the foul line.
With the loss Dominican falls to 4-5 overall, while Le Moyne improves to 3-7.
Dominican returns to action on Thursday, December 30th when they travel to non-conference opponent, Adelphi University, for a 5:30 pm game.
