Jones named to AFCA All-America Team

MARYVILLE, Mo. — Northwest Missouri State senior cornerback Ryan Jones has been selected to the 2010 AFCA Division II Coaches’ All-America Team announced today by the American Football Coaches Association. Jones is the first Northwest cornerback to be selected by the AFCA.

Northwest has the longest current streak with a player selected to the AFCA Team at 15 straight seasons, from 1996 to present. The team features 11 offensive players, 11 defensive players and three specialists with only one representative allowed per institution.

It’s the second All-America honor in as many days for Jones, who was named a first-team All-American by CoSIDA Tuesday.

Jones led the MIAA and ranked ninth in the nation with six interceptions this season, two of which he returned for touchdowns. Jones was credited with 13 pass break-ups giving him 19 passes defended – the fifth-highest tally in the nation.

Jones played in 56 of Northwest’s 58 games the last four seasons. He had a career-high 56 tackles this season, 199 for his career and his 14 collegiate interceptions rank fifth in program history.
