Goellner ranks ninth in final NCAA rankings in saves per game

INDIANAPOLIS --- Tusculum College sophomore goalkeeper Andy Goellner has finished the 2010 season ranked ninth in saves per game in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer statistical rankings, the NCAA announced Tuesday.

Goellner (Denver, Colo.) tallied 116 saves in 17 matches for an average of 6.82 saves per game. He had eight or more saves a total of 10 times, including nine stops in a 0-0 tie against Young Harris on September 11, 10 stops in a 2-1 victory at Lander on September 18 and nine saves in a 2-1 win at Newberry on October 2.

In his first season as a starter, Goellner yielded one goal or less five times and played all but 32 minutes, 39 seconds. His 1,538 minutes of playing time in the Pioneer goal rank him fifth on the program's single-season list, while his 116 saves just missed cracking the top five in the Tusculum single-season rankings.

Ricky Carreira of Lake Erie was the NCAA Division II statistical champion in saves per game with an average of 9.33 stops per match. Goellner led all South Atlantic Conference goalkeepers in the rankings.

The Pioneers concluded the 2010 season with an overall record of 2-12-3 and a mark of 1-8-0 in the South Atlantic Conference.
