Bloomsburg Men’s Basketball Falls to Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN—The Bloomsburg University men’s basketball team lost to Lock Haven on Saturday by a score of 54-51.

Lock Haven came out on fire and jumped out to a 13-1 lead in the opening minutes of the game and held a 20-10 edge at the 8:30 mark of the first half.

The Huskies rallied though behind the shooting of Trevon Johnson (Snow Hill, MD, Snow Hill) going on a 16-1 run to take a 26-21 halftime lead. Johnson tallied eight of Bloomsburg’s 16 points in the run with Dontahe Jordan (Williamsport, Williamsport) and John Schwarz (Delta, Perry Hall) scoring four points each.

Bloomsburg pushed its lead to seven points early in the second half on two free throws by Johnson. Later the Huskies led by as many as nine points, 36-27, after two free throws from Antoine Ellison-Love (Williamsport, Loyalsock)with 14:38 to play.

Lock Haven answered with back-to-back three pointers from Anthony Baker and Eli Hanna to cut the deficit to just three, 36-33 with 12:57 to go. Bloomsburg made it a five point lead, 43-48, on a pair of free throws by Kendal Smith (Waldorf, MD, Thomas Stone) with 8:00 left to play.

The Bald Eagles rallied and hit back-to-back three’s from Baker and Sharif Bolton to go on top 46-45 with 5:38 to go. Schwarz then hit a jumper to put the Huskies back on top 47-46 at the five minute mark before Lock Haven’s Joshua Eichenlaub hit a three-pointer to put the home team on top for good at 49-47.

Two free throws by Lock Haven’s Baker with 2:46 to go made it a 52-48 lead for the Bald Eagles. The Huskies answered with a layup from Schwarz with 2:35 to play. Bloomsburg later had a chance to tie the game, but Johnson hit just one of two free throws with 1:58 to go leaving Lock Haven on top 52-51.

Missed scoring chances for both teams came over the next 1:30 before Sharif Bolton hit two free throws with 20 seconds remaining making it 54-51. The Huskies came down and missed twice on three-point shots with LHU’s Eli Hanna getting the rebound on the second miss and getting fouled. Hanna then missed both of his free throws giving the Huskies one more chance, but the Huskies turned the ball over without getting off a shot.

Johnson led the Huskies, 2-4, with 17 points, while Schwarz scored 13 and Jordan added 11. Lock Haven got 25 points from Anthony Baker, while Bolton added 11.

Bloomsburg plays at Central Penn College of Harrisburg on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
