Game Notes Available for Florida Tech Tournament

PENSACOLA, Fla. - Game notes are available for the West Florida women's basketball team's weekend trip to the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament in Melbourne, Fla. UWF is 5-4 on the season.

UWF HEADS TO FLORIDA TECH TOURNEY
West Florida will compete in the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament this weekend in Melbourne, Fla. UWF will face Saint Michael’s College out of Vermont in the opening round. The Purple Knights are 3-3 on the season. If UWF wins, they will play in the championship game, at 4 pm on Sunday. If they lose, they will play in the 3rd place game at 2 pm. Florida Tech and Palm Beach Atlantic are the other two participants.

ARGOS HANG TOUGH IN DELTA STATE DEFEAT
UWF fell to No. 1 Delta State on December 12, 75-53. The Argonauts led by as many as nine points in the first half before surrendering DSU runs of 15-0, 10-0 and 17-2. Sher’Ryan Scott scored a game-high 14 points while Octavia Bearden added 11.

BERGEN’S CREW GOES 2-0 AT HIGHPOINTE HOTEL CLASSIC
UWF posted a 2-0 record against very good competition at the 2010 Highpointe Hotel Corporation Classic in Pensacola. On December 3, the Argonauts took down Eckerd, 75-69. A day later, the Argos scored a 70-63 win over previously-unbeaten Columbus State.

HOWARD DEMOLISHES TRITON DEFENSE
Point guard Jade Howard came off the bench to lead UWF past Eckerd on December 3. The junior was 3-for-3 from three-point range and scored a career-high 20 points in just 21 minutes of court time.

TWIN PEAKS STEP UP IN COLUMBUS STATE WIN
The Argonauts got big halves from a pair of post players in the 70-63 win over Columbus State on December 4. Kirstin McIntyre scored 15 of her career-high 19 points in the first half of the win, while all 16 of Jessica Young’s markers came in the 2nd half. Young earned Tournament MVP honors for her efforts.
