Lock Haven, Pa. - Five student-athletes from the PSAC have been named ESPN Academic All-Americans® during the fall season. The PSAC had representatives on two of the four Academic All-America teams that are named during the fall season by the College Sports Information Director of American (CoSIDA) and three of those quintet of individuals have been named Academic All-Americans for at least the second straight season.
The men's and women's soccer Academic All-America teams were announced in mid-November. The football Academic All-America teams were announced just prior to Thanksgiving on November 23 while the women's volleyball Academic All-America teams were announced this week.
The five fall Academic All-Americans in the PSAC were all first team selections, which ties the PSAC record for most first team All-Americans in the fall season. The fall of 2008 was the only other time that as many as five individuals earned first team Academic All-America honors during the fall season. Of the five individuals, one was on the women's soccer team and four were on the football team. The four first team football Academic All-Americans is also a new PSAC record, as previously, only as many as three PSAC football student-athletes were first team Academic All-Americans in any given year and it only happened once before, in the fall of 2008.
Two individuals in West Chester's Jessica Bennett and East Stroudsburg's Matt Freed earned first team Academic All-America accolades for the second straight season. One student-athlete, Mercyhurst's Bryan Boyce, is an Academic All-American for the third straight season. He was a first team pick in 2008 and a second team selection last year.
Listed below are the CoSIDA/ESPN Academic All-Americans® from the PSAC this fall. The next Academic All-Americans to be announced by CoSIDA this year will be the men's and women's basketball squads in late February.
