Clayton State women hold steady at sixth in new USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll

9-0 Lakers return to action on Saturday with home showdown against Augusta State

MORROW, Ga. – December 14, 2010 – After three weeks of moving up, the Clayton State Laker women’s basketball team held steady in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division II Top 25 Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday

Clayton State is ranked sixth in the nation in this week’s Division II Top 25 poll for a second straight week. The Lakers received 516 points, only 41 points behind fifth-ranked Arkansas Tech.

Head coach Dennis Cox’s Clayton State squad is currently 9-0 to start the season, marking the most consecutive victories to start a season in program history. The Lakers are one of three teams from the Peach Belt Conference that are nationally-ranked this week. Lander is ranked second in the nation for a third straight week, trailing only top-ranked Delta State, while USC Aiken enters the Top 25 this week at No. 25.

In addition, Augusta State, Francis Marion and Georgia College each received votes.

Clayton State returns to action this Saturday, when the Lakers play host to Peach Belt rival Augusta State at 5:30 p.m. at the Athletics and Fitness Center.
