Central Oklahoma wrestling routs OCU

EDMOND (Dec. 9) – Ben Morgan, Kelly Henderson and Cody Dauphin scored falls to lead a dominating effort that carried Central Oklahoma to a 34-9 drubbing of Oklahoma City Thursday night at Hamilton Field.

UCO, ranked No. 12 in NCAA Division II, didn’t allow an offensive point in the eight matches it won and outscored the NAIA No. 12-rated Stars 40-6 in the five wins that went the distance in improving to 2-1 on the year.

“I was pleased with our effort and I thought we wrestled pretty well overall,” UCO coach David James said.  “We controlled the pace in most of the matches and did a good job putting guys away when we got the chance.  It’s a good step and we just want to keep moving forward.”

OCU took a 3-0 lead with a win in the opening match at 125 when the Stars recorded their only takedowns of the night, but the Bronchos took the lead for good at 133 on Trison Graham’s 10-2 major decision that included five takedowns.

A 7-1 victory by Kaleb Cradduck at 141 and Morgan’s second-period fall at 149 upped UCO’s lead to 13-3 before the Stars got their last win at 149 when Mark Meyer reversed Cory Dauphin to his back and scored a pin at the 4:34 mark to make it 13-9.

It was all UCO after that, with the Bronchos rolling in the final five matches to win going away.

Derrick Adkins started the dual-closing winning streak with a methodical 5-0 shutout at 165 and Henderson followed with a first-period fall in his first action of the season at 174 after having previously competed at 165.

Tanner Keck had three takedowns in an 8-2 rout at 184 and Jarrett Edison cruised to a 7-1 triumph at 197 before Dauphin polished off the rout with a first-period pin of Stanley Lattimore, ranked fourth in NAIA.

The Bronchos return to action Sunday, going to Wichita, Kan. for the Jet Invitational to end the first semester schedule.
