Bronchos Women's Basketball Win Fifth Straight

EDMOND (Dec. 11) -- Alyssa Fuxa scored 14 of her season-high 20 points in the second half to spark streaking Central Oklahoma to a 69-65 Lone Star Conference crossover victory over Angelo State Saturday afternoon at Hamilton Field House.

It was the fifth straight win after a season-opening loss for the Bronchos, who took the lead late in the first half and led the rest of the way in improving to 5-1. The Rambelles fell to 4-2.

UCO was nursing a three-point lead down the stretch when Heather Davis hit a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give the Bronchos some breathing room at 67-62.

Fuxa added two more foul shots at 0:03 after rebounding a missed ASU 3-pointer to make it 69-62 before the Rambelles hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to arrange the final score.

“It was a tough game, but we found a way to win,” UCO coach Guy Hardaker said.  “We made some big shots and had different players step up and make key plays in some crucial situations.”

Fuxa was 6-of-13 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and 6-of-7 from the line in her 20-point outing while adding nine rebounds and three steals as she played 38 of the game's 40 minutes.

Britney Morgan hit 4-of-7 shots from beyond the arc in finishing with 14 points and Ashley Beckley had a fantastic all-around game with 13 points, 10 rebounds, five assists three steals and two blocked shots.  Courtney Allen chipped in nine points and three assists.

ASU led 27-24 late in the first half when Fuxa hit a pair of 3-pointers during an 8-0 that put the Bronchos in front to stay, 32-27 and UCO went on to a 37-34 halftime lead.

UCO pushed that its advantage to eight at 50-42 on a Beckley layup with 16:18 left to play before the Rambelles came back with a 9-2 run to get within 52-51 at the 11:56 mark.

The Bronchos stayed in front and went up by six (65-59) on a Tarrington Oakes layup with 1:59 remaining, but a three-point play by ASU's Krysta Martinez made it 65-62 and three missed free throws by UCO kept the Rambelles within range before Davis' charity tosses clinched the win.

The Bronchos return to action Monday, hosting Abilene Christian at 6 p.m.
