Basketball Squads To Finish Semester With Road Trips This Weekend

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The Saint Michael's College basketball teams will end the fall semester with lengthy road trips this weekend. The Purple Knight women fly South to play two games at the Florida Institute of Technology Holiday Tournament, while the Saint Michael's men visit New York City for a game against Queens College.

The Saint Michael's women (3-3) will board a plane this evening (Thursday), ultimately arriving in Melbourne, Fla. The Purple Knights will open the tournament on Saturday with a 4 p.m. contest versus the University of West Florida (5-4), and then play either host Florida Tech (8-1) or Palm Beach Atlantic University (1-8) on Sunday at 2 or 4 p.m.

All games from the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament can be seen and heard through the Florida Tech Media Center, found online at http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/fit.portal#.

The Saint Michael's men (3-5) will drive to Flushing, N.Y., to take on Queens (5-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m. That game can also be followed online at http://livestats.prestosports.com/queens/.

The Saint Michael's women have never played the three Florida institutions that join them at the Florida Tech Holiday Tournament, and haven't played in Florida since 2005. That visit, however, was a success, as the Purple Knights earned a 55-47 win at Saint Leo University on Dec. 17, 2005, and a 66-59 victory at the University of Tampa on Dec. 19, 2005.

The Saint Michael's men, meanwhile, are 2-1 all-time versus Queens, but haven't played the Knights since a 91-73 win at the Disney Tip-Off Classic on Nov. 13, 1998.

This weekend's contests are the final basketball games for Saint Michael's before a two-week break for the holidays. Both teams return to action on Sunday, January 2 with a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader versus Bentley University at the Ross Sports Center (women at 1:30 p.m., men at 3:30 p.m.).
