2010-11 PacWest Men’s Basketball Report #4

PHOENIX, AZ - Academy of Art freshman forward Will Overton (Trenton, NJ/Leuzinger) has been selected the Pacific West Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week. The award was announced by the PacWest Media Office in Phoenix, AZ, on Monday, Dec. 6, for games contested Nov. 29-Dec. 5.
Overton set a modern PacWest single-game scoring record vs. Menlo (CA) in an 86-75 victory by scoring 44 points. He broke the previous mark of 39 set by Zack Whiting of Chami- nade on Dec. 30, 2006, vs. Indianapolis. Current PacWest records begin with the 2006-07 season when the league reformed to its current structure.

Overton also had seven rebounds in the game and shot 66.7% (10 for 15) from the floor, making 5 of 10 (50.0%) three-point attempts. When he wasn’t making field goals, Overton was standing at the free throw line, converting 82.6% (19 for 23) of his foul shots. He also had a pair of steals and blocked a shot in the victory.


PacWest Men’s Basketball Weekly Top 10 Honor Roll

Jeremiah Barnes - Dixie State (Sr., 6-1, 180, G, Compton, CA/Los Altos)...posted 13 assists and six rebounds in 110-41 win over Pacifica on Dec. 4...chipped in five points and a steal in just 18 minutes of action.

Steven Bennett - Chaminde (Sr., 5-6, 155, G, Los Angeles, CA/Dorsey)...averaged 19.0 points and 5.0 assists per game in a 0- 2 week...shot 70.0% (7 for 10) from the line...named to the Seattle Pacific University All-Tournament Team.

Keith Davis - Academy of Art (Jr., 6-4, 205, F, Long Beach, CA/Long Beach)...scored 16 points and collected seven rebounds in 86-75 win vs. Menlo (CA) on Dec. 4.

Adrian den Dulk - Hawai‘i Pacific (Jr., 6-9, 230, F, Ripon, CA/Ripon Christian)...averaged 13.5 points and 4.0 rebounds in 0-2 trip to Alaska...shot 60.0% (12 for 20) from the field.

Mamadou Diarra - Chaminade (Jr., 7-0, 235, C, Bamako, Mali/Stoneridge Prep)...despite a 0-2 week, averaged 11.5 points and 8.5 rebounds per game...shot 60.0% (6 for 10) from the floor and 78.6% (11 for 14) from the line...also averaged 3.0 blocks per game.

Tsung-Hsein (Jet) Chang - BYU-Hawaii (Jr., 6-4, 190, G, Yilan, Taiwan/Sing Rong)...scored 32 points on 57.1% shooting (12 for 21) in 90-83 loss at Division I Long Beach State on Dec. 2...also had five rebounds

Derek Owen - Dixie State (So., 6-8, 220, F, St. George, UT/Dixie)...scored 15 points and collected six rebounds in 110-41 win over Pacifica on Dec. 4...shot 77.8% (7 for 9) from the floor.
Kyle Speed - Grand Canyon (Jr., 6-0, N/ A, G, Seattle, WA/Lake Washington)...averaged 11.0 points and 3.5 assists per contest in 0-2 week for the Antelopes...shot 52.9% from the floor (9 for 17)...hit 2 of 5 (40.0%) three-point attempts.

Marques Whippy - BYU-Hawaii (Sr., 6-5, 215, G, Bua, Fiji/Woods Cross, UT)...accumulated 12 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and five points in 90-83 loss at Division I Long Beach State on Dec. 2.

Tom Whitehead - Dixie State (Sr., 6-6, 185, F, St. George, UT/Dixie)...scored 25 points on 88.9% shooting ( 8 for 9) from the floor in 110-41 thumping of Pacifica...made 6 of 7 (85.7%) shots from beyond the arc...also had three assists and no turnovers.
