KANSAS CITY, KS – Twelve players from the Pacific West Conference have earned a place on the 2010 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/Performance Subaru Men’s NCAA Division II All-West Region Team.
The honor was announced on Dec. 8 from the NSCAA headquarters in Kansas City, KS.
Three PacWest players were chosen for the First Team, four claimed Second Team accolades, and five earned Third Team honors.
Grand Canyon sophomore forward Kyle Ciliento (Phoenix, AZ/Pinnacle), the PacWest Player of the Year, and GCU junior defender Nick Sykes (Boise, ID/Mountain View) earned First Team honors along with Notre Dame de Namur junior forward Cristobal Montes (Fremont, CA/John F. Kennedy).
Montes finished the year with 20 points on eight goals and four assists. He finished the season tied for fifth in points, points per game (1.11), goals and goals per game (0.44) in the league.
Ciliento dominated the PacWest offensively, producing 60 points on 27 goals and six assists. He topped the conference in total points, points per game (3.00), goals and goals per game (1.34). He tied for fourth in assists and finished seventh in assists per game (0.30), and he led the league in game-winning goals with nine. He has 26 more points and 14 more goals than the runner-up in the conference.
Grand Canyon senior goalkeeper Ben Paneccasio (Sydney, Australia), the 2010 PacWest Goalkeeper of the Year, was named a Second Team All-West Region member. Paneccasio played every minute of every game in net for the Antelopes in 2010, recording a 15-3-2 overall mark while helping lead Grand Canyon to a PacWest Championship and the NCAA II West Region finale.
He posted a 0.78 goals against average and a .704 save percentage while recording 38 stops (1.89 per game). He finished fifth in save percentage, second in goals against average, and led the PacWest in shutouts (10).
NDNU junior middie Christian Rosales (Redwood City, CA/St. Francis) earned Second Team honors by helping the Argos to a 13-3-2 overall record and a 10-2-2 mark in the PacWest. He contributed eight points on two goals and four assists this season.
Argonaut senior defender Oswaldo Hernandez (Jalisco, Mexico) joined Rosales on the Second Team. He played all 18 games this year for NDNU and contributed one assist on offense.
Hawai‘i Pacific junior forward Chance Bukoski (Lihue, HI/Kapaa) earned a Second Team honor after a stellar season produced 34 points on 13 goals and eight assists. He finished the year second in the PacWest in total points, game-winners (5), points per game (2.12), goals and goals per game (0.81). He topped the league in assists and in assists per game (0.50).
Grand Canyon picked up a trio of Third Team choices thanks to senior midfielder Joao Vieira (Amparo, Brazil), junior midfielder Cordero Young (Orlando, FL/Central Florida Christian Academy) and junior midfielder Mitchell Garcia (Avondale AZ/Agua Fria).
Young recorded 22 points on nine goals and three assists with a trio of game-winners. He finished the season third in points, seventh in points per game (1.10), tied for third in goals and ranked fourth in goals per game (0.45).
Vieira completed his senior season with 12 points on three goals and six assists, while Garcia accrued 13 points on three goals and seven assists with one game-winner.
Academy of Art junior forward Andrew Cruz (Pleasanton, CA/Foothill) and Dominican (CA) junior midfielder Pedro Guevara (Santa Rosa, CA/Montgomery) also made the Third Team with their outstanding play.
Guevara posted 20 points on eight goals and four assists, finishing the season tied for fifth in goals, goals per game (0.44), points and points per game (1.11) in the league.
Cruz tallied 17 points on eight goals and one assist. He was tied for ninth in points, ranked ninth in points per game (0.94), and tied for fifth in goals and goals per game (0.44).
