Washington hits 20 as Bulldogs trap LC Blue Bears 87-59 Saturday

Charlotte, N.C.----Wingate University guard/forward Kurie Washington (Marion, N.C.) had 20 points to lead four players in double figures as the Bulldogs defeated Livingstone College 87-59 Saturday in the 2010 Queen City Classic, hosted by Johnson C. Smith University in historic Brayboy Gymnasium.
           
With the victory, Wingate improves to 2-1 overall on the young season. Livingstone (0-1 overall) falls in its season opener. The Bulldogs face host JCSU Sunday at 4 p.m. The LC Blue Bears will battle Queens University of Charlotte Sunday at 2 p.m.
           
A two-time All-South Atlantic Conference performer, Washington hit five-of-field goals and two-of-three from three-point land. The McDowell High School product nailed eight-of-eight free throws as the Bulldogs hit 81.8 percent from the charity stripe.
           
Bulldog junior forward Simone Rutledge (Atlanta, Ga.) had 15 points and seven rebounds, converting seven-of-10 shots from the field. Wingate junior guard Tiffany Brown (Cartesville, Ga.) had 13 points, while freshman forward Chantal Dunbar (Virginia Beach, Va.) contributed 10 markers and seven rebounds. The Bulldogs outrebounded the Blue Bears 59-43.
