Belmont Abbey sophomore women's golfer Meagan Wallace has been selected as the NCAA Division II Conference Carolinas Women's Golf Player of the Month during the month of October.
Wallace led the Abbey to a pair of top-five finishes, including a win at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational. After a tie for ninth-place finish at the Nova Southeastern Shark Invitational, Wallace captured medalist honors at the Patsy Rendleman Invitational, setting school and tournament records with a final round six-under par 66 to give the Abbey a win by eight shots.
Wallace’s final round featured six birdies and a dozen pars and her 139 total is also a new tournament mark. She claimed medalist honors by seven shots. The six under is possibly a course amateur record in competition play at the Country Club of Salisbury. Catawba’s Paige Haverty shot a 66 in US Open qualifying in 2006, but at a Par 71 (-5). Wallace entered the final round in a tie for third with an opening round 73.
For the month, she posted a pair of top five finishes, averaging a score of 72.50 in four rounds. The Crusaders ended the fall season ranked sixth nationally.
