Skillman, N.J. - Lynn University’s men’s tennis team has been ranked fifth in the Campbell/ITA Division II National Preseason Poll as announced Wednesday morning. Alessandro Sarra and Vlad Cirla are both ranked in the top ten in singles as well.
The Fighting Knights were extremely impressive at the ITA South Regional to garner the fifth spot in the preseason poll and are ranked behind Barry, Valdosta State, Armstrong-Atlantic and Oauchita Baptist.
Cirla, who is ranked tenth in the singles poll, fell to preseason No. 1 Emanuel Fraitzl of Barry University in the quarterfinals of the ITA South Regional in early October. Sarra is ranked ninth after advancing to the second round of the South Regional.
Other Fighting Knights who are ranked in singles play are Willie Wolfer at 27 and Luca Pavanelli at 47.
In the doubles rankings, Pavanelli and Wolfer are ranked 11th while Cirla and George Laffey open the season at No. 21.
The men’s tennis team opens its 2011 spring season at Saint Leo on Saturday, February 5, at 10 am.
