Volleyball Drops Season Finale at TWU

DENTON, TEXAS – The Texas A&M-Kingsville volleyball saw its season come to a close on Saturday after losing at Lone Star Conference rival Texas Woman’s University 25-16, 30-28, 25-23.

The Javelinas closed out the season 10-16 overall and 4-10 in conference play.  The second set proved to be the longest the team has played this season.  After trailing 24-22, they scored three straight points to get a set point, but could not convert.  They had two more set points before the Pioneers (11-17, 8-6) scored the final three points of the set.

The third set was an even bigger heartbreaker for the Javelinas as they led for the majority of the set.  They led 23-21, but three attack errors and a service ace by Sydney Veitenheimer gave TWU the win.

The Javelinas posted a .156 attack with 41 kills in the match.  Freshman Bethany Friesenhahn (Poth/Poth HS) led the team with 12 kills and a .242 attack while junior Amanda Waclawczyk added seven kills, a .375 attack and five blocks.  Junior Sondra Cui (San Antonio/Steele HS) led the team with 22 assists while sophomore Ali Insell (The Woodlands/The Woodlands HS) had 24 digs.

The Pioneers posted a .226 attack and had 49 kills in the match.  Katelyn Osborne led the way with 13 kills and a .294 attack while Alyson Harlan added a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs.  Veitenheimer led all players with 38 assists while Kendra Coulson finished with 20 digs.
