Three Seawolves named GNAC All-Academic

SPOKANE, Wash. (Nov. 10) – Alaska Anchorage’s Marie Borowikow, Jackie Matthisen and Nikkie Viotto were among  were honored Wednesday for their hard work in the classroom as the trio was named to the Great Northwest Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for volleyball.

Borowikow, a sophomore from Eberswalde, Germany, tied for the league’s highest grade-point average with a 4.0 as a psychology major. The 6-3 right-side hitter was also honored last week as an ESPN Academic-All District selection. On the court, Borowikow currently ranks fifth in the GNAC with 1.01 blocks per set — tops among non-middle blockers — and 11th with a .229 attack percentage.

Viotto, a sophomore from Eagle River (ERHS), holds a 3.82 overall GPA in journalism & public communications. She leads the Seawolves and ranks 13th in the GNAC with 2.80 digs per set.

Matthisen, local junior from East High, earned a spot on the team for the second straight year with a 3.34 GPA in geological sciences. The outside hitter leads UAA and ranks among the league leaders in both kills per set and points per set as well.
