Tampa Places Three On Daktronics All-Region Team

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Three University of Tampa players were among the 27 student-athletes from eight different institutions made up the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II South Region Men's Soccer Team. UT's Brian Fekete and Lister Warren were each first-team selections as Ryan Griffin found a spot on the second team.

Fekete led a Tampa defensive unit that notched 10 shutouts while outscoring opponents 46-19 on the season. He also totaled three goals and five assists. Warren was the team's leading scorer with 12 goals and 29 points while also tallying five assists. Griffin scored seven goals and three assists from his midfield position, playing a major role in the team's offensive and defensive efforts.

Five Sunshine State Conference schools are represented and three schools from Gulf South Conference find representation in both the first and second teams. Barry's midfielder Sascha Koettig earned South Region Player of the Year. Koettig tallied 10 goals, nine assists, and 29 points from the midfield. He tied for second in the conference in points and assists and ranked sixth in the league in goals.

Tampa's Fekete, Barry's Joe Conkleton, and Rollins' Jack Clifford and Thomas Biddinger all earned first-team defender honors. Frank Cope from West Florida, Gary Ogilvie out of Florida Tech, Barry's Sascha Koettig, and Lynn's Kyle Conrad compile the first-team midfielders on the 2010 Daktronics South Region Team. From the forward position, Nova's Aly Hassan, Tampa's Warren, Barry's Mark Anderson and Ouachita Baptist's Rizvan Ceka made up the first team. Barry goal keeper Johnny Rodrigues completes the first team selections.

For the second team, West Florida's Marquel Waldron, Ouachita Baptist's Alex Tonrey, Barry's Joao Garcia, and Alabama-Huntsville's Jarrod Muggleton represent the defenders. In the midfield, Saint Leo's Bruce Cutler, Tampa's Griffin, and Rollins' Nick Sowers and Stephen Wright were all selected to the second team. Saint Leo tallied two forwards on the second team in Jonathan Glenn and Edgar Herrera. West Florida's Daniel Martini, Ouachita Baptist's Sergui Postolache and Rollins' Chase Neinken rounded out the second-team forwards. Rollins' keeper Keneil Baker earned second-team honors as well.

Voting for the 2010 Daktronics NCAA Division II South Region Men's Soccer Team was powered by UT partner ATHLETICSITE.COM and voted on by the regional members of D2-SIDA.
