Seawolves Volleyball maintain No. 7 position

INDIANAPOLIS (Nov. 10) – Alaska Anchorage remained in the No. 7 position when NCAA released its Division II West volleyball rankings Wednesday.

The Seawolves (16-8), winners of eight of their last 10 matches, stayed in playoff position in the final poll of the season despite a loss last Saturday at Central Washington. UAA plays its final matches of the regular season Thursday against Saint Martin’s and Saturday against Western Oregon in Anchorage.

Eight teams qualify for the playoffs, with the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, California Collegiate Athletic Association and Pacific West Conference champions receiving automatic bids. Pac West leader Hawaii-Hilo is currently No. 8.

GNAC leader Seattle Pacific traded places with league rival Western Washington in the No. 2 and 3 slots after beating the Vikings last week. Cal State-San Bernardino continues to lead the rankings and thus would be the likely host for the regional tournament, Nov. 18-20.

UAA owns victories over Cal State-San Bernardino and split its season series with WWU and SPU, while suffering losses to No. 4 UC San Diego and No. 10 San Francisco State.

The NCAA releases rankings to rate the top 10 teams in all eight Division II regions, helping to determine which eight teams per region qualify for the NCAA Tournament.

The NCAA field will be announced Sunday, Nov. 14, at approximately 6 p.m. AST.
