San Francisco State Wins Shootout to Advance to CCAA Tournament Championship Match

TURLOCK, Calif. - Senior forward Myriah Johnson converted the decisive penalty kick to give San Francisco State a 4-3 penalty-kick victory over UC San Diego and a berth in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Women's Soccer Tournament Friday night at Warrior Stadium in Turlock.

The Gators (11-4-4) and Tritons (14-2-3) played to a 1-1 tie through regulation and two overtime periods.

The victory over UC San Diego was the first in the CCAA Tournament for San Francisco State, which is appearing in the event for the the second time in program history. The Gators will play either Cal State L.A. or Cal State Stanislaus Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

UC San Diego, which enetered the contest ranked No. 9 nationally in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and No. 3 in the West Region, struck first when it scored 13 minutes into the match.

Senior forward Annette Ilg received a cross from sophomore defender Hayley Johnson and scored at the 12:19 mark. It was Ilg's ninth goal of the season.

The contest remained 1-0 until the 60:02 mark when senior midfielder Carly Bliss headed in a cross from Johnson for the equalizing goal.

Bliss' goal was the lone shot on-goal for the Gators, who were out-shot 18-10 in the match.
