Saint Anselm Drops 83-53 Final to Bentley University for First Loss of Season

Waltham, Mass. (November 23) -- At the Dana Center on Tuesday, the Saint Anselm men's basketball team dropped its first game of the season as the Hawks fell to Bentley University by an 83-53 final in Northeast-10 play. Both teams are receiving votes in this week's NABC Division II Coaches Top-25 Poll.

Saint Anselm jumped out to a 13-8 lead with 15:10 left in the opening half after a three-pointer from freshman Allen Harris (Roslindale, Mass.). The two teams went back and forth over the next eight minutes before the Falcons seized a 22-16 lead on a layup from Dan O'Keefe. The lead went up to as many as eight points before Harris scored with 7:22 left to end the Bentley run.

The Falcons picked right up where they left off though as they built a 40-21 left with four minutes left in the opening half and took a 47-24 lead into the halftime break. Harris and Thomas Baudinet (Watertown, Conn.) each had eight points in the opening half, while Greg Jacques put up 14 points in eight minutes. The Hawks knocked down five three-pointers in the half, but managed to shoot just 28 percent from the field and were outrebounded 23-12 in the first period.

Bentley started the second half on a 9-0 run to push the lead to 32 points with just over three minutes gone in the period and held at least a 30-point advantage for the rest of the contest.

Harris led the Hawks with 14 points, along with 10 for Baudinet. Bentley was paced by 21 points from Brian Tracey as four Falcons scored in double figures.

Saint Anselm is now 3-1 overall and 1-1 in Northeast-10 play, while Bentley is 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the Northeast-10.

Saint Anselm is back in action on Sunday, November 28 as the Hawks play host to Franklin Pierce University. Tipoff is set for 3:30 p.m. at Al Grenert Court at Stoutenburgh Gym.
