Rapin Voted First Team All-GLIAC for Third Time; Four Lakers Honored Overall

Four Grand Valley State players were named to the 2010 All-GLIAC Volleyball Team on Saturday night (Nov. 13), as released by the league offices in between the GLIAC tournament semifinal matches in Hillsdale. In voting conducted by the league's head coaches, senior Rebeccah Rapin was named to the All-GLIAC First Team for the third straight season, while three other Lakers were awarded with their first all-conference citations. Senior Krysta Kornack was also tabbed as a First Team selection, freshman Stacey Catalano earned Second Team plaudits, and senior Meghan Scanlon garnered Honorable Mention laurels.

One of the top GVSU players in recent history, Rapin now finds herself in elite company with her third All-GLIAC First Team selection. She became just the second player in the storied history of Laker volleyball to be named an All-GLIAC First Team choice three different times, joining Carly Miller (2000, 2001, 2002), the school's all-time leader in kills. Entering Saturday's semifinal match, Rapin was third in the GLIAC in hitting percentage (.353), fourth in blocks (1.11), sixth in kills (3.35) and sixth in points (4.06). She leads Grand Valley State in hitting percentage, kills (295), and solo blocks (20), while ranking second in total blocks (98).

Rapin has stamped her name throughout the Laker record books, as she is first in GVSU career history in block assists (401). Her 483 total blocks places her third all-time in program history, while she ranks seventh in kills (1,279), eighth in hitting percentage (.317) and eighth in total attacks (2,986). Rapin is one of just nine players in Laker history to be named as an All-GLIAC selection in three or more seasons.

Earning her first all-conference award is Kornack, who was named as a First Team All-GLIAC choice. The outside hitter has been very balanced throughout the year, both offensively and defensively. Kornack ranks third on Grand Valley State in kills (226), hitting percentage (.245), and points (3.03), while placing sixth in service aces (11). On the defensive side of the court, Kornack is third on the team in total blocks (67) and solo blocks (11) and fourth in block assists (56).

Being named to the All-GLIAC Second Team is Catalano, one of the team's two starting freshmen. Catalano put together a terrific rookie season, as she ranks second on the team in kills (266), third in digs (253) and service aces (16), and fifth in blocks (47) and hitting percentage (.215). Her 3.36 points per set places her second on the team and just outside the conference's top-10 in that category.

Scanlon was tabbed as an All-GLIAC Honorable Mention selection, the first all-conference award of her career. She is the team leader in assists (560), while ranking second in service aces (18), and fourth in digs (196). A two-year starter in GVSU's 6-2 system, Scanlon has compiled 1,232 assists in her career, placing her 10th all-time in Laker history.

Hillsdale took home three of the four major awards, as junior outside hitter Ashlee Crowder was tabbed as the GLIAC Player of the Year. Libero Sydney Dow earned GLIAC Libero of the Year honors for the second consecutive year, while HC's Chris Gravel was voted as the league's Coach of the Year. Northern Michigan's Ana Lopes was named the conference's Freshman of the Year in a close vote over Catalano. Again, all voting was done by the GLIAC's head coaches.
