Pirates Sweep UNC Pembroke, 3-0, On Satuday

PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Armstrong Atlantic State University volleyball squad hit .283 in claiming a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference win over host UNC Pembroke on Saturday afternoon at the Jones Center. Game scores were: 25-21, 25-19, 25-20.

With the win, the Pirates (19-12, 8-6 PBC) finish the second half of the league slate with a 6-1 mark, cementing hold of third place in the PBC standings and gaining momentum heading into the 2010 PBC Championships, which Armstrong will host beginning on Nov. 12. UNC Pembroke (19-13, 5-9 PBC) will be the fifth seed in the upcoming tournament.

Freshman Jessica Santaniello had a second straight strong match, leading all players with 15 kills while hitting .483 for the match. Senior Gwen Clarke hit .556 with 11 kills and just one error in 18 attacks, while freshman Megan Pando delivered 44 assists and junior Casey Howett notched 13 digs.

UNC Pembroke was led on the afternoon by Tiara Anderson's 11 kills, Heather Bolwerk's 19 assists and Marissa Baker's nine digs.

The 2010 PBC Tournament bracket will be released later Saturday by the league office at www.peachbelt.com. Armstrong wraps up its 2010 regular season on Tuesday by hosting cross-town rival and Division I Savannah State at 7:00 p.m. at the ARC.
