Pan Am Women's Basketball Downs Javelinas, 90-68

EDINBURG, TEXAS – The UT-Pan American women’s basketball team jumped out to a big early lead over visiting Texas A&M-Kingsville on Monday night and cruised to a 90-68 win at the UTPA Fieldhouse.
          
The Lady Broncos (3-0) jumped out to a 35-11 lead in the first 9:27 and led by as many as 29 points in the first half and took a 54-27 lead heading into halftime.
          
The Javelinas (0-3) outscored their NCAA Division I opponent, 42-36 in the second half.
          
The Javelinas shot 42.9 percent from the field in the second half and 37.7 percent for the entire game.  They made 3-of-12 three-point attempts and were 13-for-17 from the foul line.  They grabbed six more rebounds than the Broncos, but committed 22 turnovers that were turned into 27 points.
          
The Hoggies had three players score in double figures.  Novella Thomas (Corpus Christi/West Oso HS) led the team with 15 points while Rochelle Ikeni (Fresno, CA/Roosevelt HS) just missed a double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Meagan Barlow (D’Hanis/D’Hanis HS) added 10 points and went 6-for-6 from the foul line.
          
The Broncos shot 47.7 percent from the field and made an incredible 14-of-23 three-point attempts in the game.  Bianca Torre scored 27 points, grabbed seven rebounds and went 6-for-6 from three-point range.  Erin Lewis added a double-double with 15 points, 13 assists and four steals.  CeMonay Newell knocked down five three-pointers and scored 18 points.
          
The Javelinas are back in action on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Our Lady of the Lake in the team’s home opener.
