NSIC/US Bank Soccer Tournament Semifinals Results

UMD & WSU Advance with 1-0 Wins

WINONA, MN – The Winona State soccer team advanced to the championship game of the NSIC/U.S. Bank Tournament, beating Minnesota State, 1-0. The No. 16 Warriors got a goal in the 69th minute from NSIC Newcomer of the Year Jennifer Deroo to propel them into the title game. Winona State moved to 16-3-1 on the season with the win. Winona State will now play Minnesota Duluth in the title game on Sunday. Game time is set for 1 pm at Verizon Wireless Stadium in Winona. The Bulldogs advanced to the championship game with a 1-0 win over Bemidji State.

After a first half when neither team could get a good look at the goal, Winona State came through on Deroo’s score. She took a pass from Lauren Sturdivant on the right side and dribbled in, moving past the goalkeeper to find the back of the net. Anna Belpedio was stellar again in goal, making five saves and keeping the Mavericks off the board. The NSIC Defensive Player of the Year threw her tenth shutout of the season.

In the other semifinal Minnesota Duluth advanced to the championship match after defeating Bemidji State 1-0. The Bulldogs dominated the first half offensively with 12 shots while keeping BSU at a single shot attempt.  The roles reversed during the second half as the Beavers contributed 10 shot attempts while UMD provided two shots.  The Bulldogs were led by freshman forward Dani Potter who had three total attempts.

UMD scored early as junior defender Reegan Lloyd scored her sixth goal of the season at the 22:27 mark.  The Woodbury, Minn. native has scored both goals for Duluth in their NSIC/U.S. Bank Soccer Tournament conquest.  Lloyd was unassisted in this game-winning goal.

Senior goalkeeper Hannah Bengtson contributed seven saves in her ninth shutout of the season, six of them in the second half alone.  Bemidji's goalkeeper Samantha Ross was credited with two saves in this match.
