No. 21 UMSL Volleyball Suffers Third Straight Loss

LOUISVILLE, KY., November 6, 2010 - The No. 21 ranked University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team suffered its third straight loss with 3-2 setback at Bellarmine Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.

After dropping the first two sets 25-22, 25-20, the Tritons rallied to tie the match with wins of 25-20, 25-20. The host Knights then secured the victory with a 15-7 win in the fifth and decisive set.

The Tritons close out their regular season with a 19-7 record, including a 10-4 mark in the GLVC. UMSL will be the league's No. 5 seed in next week's GLVC Tournament, hosted by top-seeded Lewis in Romeoville, Ill., and will face No. 4 seed Northern Kentucky in quarterfinal round action. That match will be played on Friday at 5 p.m. and will mark the second contest between the two teams in a week as the Norse defeated the Tritons, 3-2, last night.

Four UMSL players finished in double-digit kills in the loss, including junior Weslie Gaff who tallied a team-best 16 kills, hitting at a .324 clip. Gaff also finished with four blocks, including two solos.

Junior Erin Higgins added 12 kills, while junior Kelsie Rankin finished with 11 kills and 11 digs. Junior Shelby Crawford chipped in 10 kills.

UMSL hit .228 as a team, while Bellarmine (18-9, 9-4 GLVC) hit at a .244 clip.

Senior Kayla Kinzinger and freshman Anna McNulty dished out 29 and 27 assists, respectively, while senior Carolyn Holstein registered 26 digs. Senior Liz Cook finished with 16 digs.
