New Haven Men's Basketball Falls By Four to Greyhounds

WORCESTER, Mass. - The University of New Haven men's basketball team suffered a 75-71 loss to Assumption College Tuesday night in Massachusetts. Krystian Foriest gave the Chargers a one-point lead with 56-second remaining, but the Geryhounds scored the final five points to secure their third win of the season. The Chargers fall to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while Assumption improves to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

The Chargers and Greyhounds opened Tuesday's game very even, exchanging the lead six times in the opening 10 minutes. Ignited by a three-pointer from Mike Baldarelli, Assumption went on a 8-1 run to take a five point lead, 25-20 with 9:28 left in the first half. The Chargers rallied and took a lead when Krystian Foriest scored a non-traditional three-point play with 8:05 left. Two possessions later, the Greyhounds regained the lead again and held on to the lead until the break, 44-35.

UNH connected on over 50-percent of its shot in the first half, while Assumption connected on over 55-percent. Robert Jamerson led the Chargers with 11 first-half points, while Justin Exum and Foriest scored seven each.

Over the first eight minutes of the second half, Assumption held on to the lead. Jamerson and Foriest led the Chargers on a 7-0 run over a minute and a half span midway through the second half and gave UNH its first lead of the second half with 11:01 remaining. The teams again exchanged the lead for the next 10 minutes. Assumption took the lead for good with 40-second left in the second half. The Chargers turned the ball over once and missed a pair of shots down the stretch as the Greyhounds concluded the four-point victory.

Jamerson added another 11 points in the second half for a team-high 22 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and two assists. Foriest added 13 points, while Exum and Mike Stys each scored 11 points. Exum also recorded five boards and two steals for UNH.

As a team, the Chargers went 30-for-64 from the field and 5-for-14 from three-point territory. Assumption out-rebounded UNH 37-33 and held a 48-44 advantage in points in the paint.

The Chargers return to the court on Sunday, November 28 when they travel to Syracuse, N.Y. to take on Le Moyne College. Tip off is set for 3 p.m. Click here for live statistics of the game or click here for live video.
