CANYON, Texas – Lone Star Conference regular season champion West Texas A&M had three first-team selections on the All-LSC volleyball team announced by league officials Wednesday evening at the LSC Championship banquet.
WTAMU, which posted a perfect 14-0 league record and is hosting the LSC Championship that starts tomorrow, had a total of six honorees. Lauren Thedford, Erika Dupree and Keidra Williams earned first team acclaim, while Stormi Lancaster, Lauren Beville and Ashley Davis were honorable mention selections.
Additionally, Williams was tabbed Newcomer of the Year and Jason Skoch was Coach of the Year in the balloting of LSC head coaches.
Abilene Christian, the regular season runner-up, had five players recognized including first-team choices Shawna Hines and Ijeoma Moronu; second-teamers Jordan Schilling and Jennie Hutt and honorable mention pick Neely Borger. The Wildcats Hines was named Defensive Player of the Year for the third straight year, while Moronu claimed Setter of the Year acclaim and Borger was named Freshman of the Year.
Angelo State’s Chelsea Gibson took home Offensive Player of the Year honors, while Midwestern State’s Kiara Jordan earned Libero of the Year recognition.
A total of 43 student-athletes were recognized by the LSC postseason awards program including one from all 15 volleyball programs.
ASU and Incarnate Word each had four total selections, while MSU, Tarleton State and Eastern New Mexico had three each. Central Oklahoma, Texas Woman’s, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Southeastern Oklahoma, Texas A&M-Commerce, Cameron and Southwestern Oklahoma added two each and East Central had one.
