Lakewood, NJ – (11/4/2010) – Chestnut Hill College was first on the scoreboard in this afternoon’s Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Semifinal, but #6 Georgian Court University tied the contest prior to halftime and recorded the game-winner just 3:11 into the closing frame to defeat the Griffins 2-1. With the victory, the Lions advance to the CACC Championship Game to challenge #4 Holy Family University for the league crown on Saturday, November 6.
Chestnut Hill College (13-3-2) applied the early pressure resulting in the contest’s initial tally from freshman forward Kaelyn Pizarro (Berlin, NJ). An assault on the Georgian Court University (10-8-2) goal allowed Pizarro to head a loose deflection to the back of the net just 5:27 into the contest, 1-0. The Griffins enjoyed the lead until 29:23, when junior forward Candace Seaton (Bellport, NY) took a midfield-pass from sophomore midfielder Jennifer Molzon (Howard, NJ) before blasting in the game-tying tally, 1-1. The Lions held a 7-5 shot advantage as the affair went to intermission, while the Griffins owned a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
The stalemate did not last long into the second half, as Molzon gave the Lions a 2-1 lead just 3:11 into the period. On an unassisted effort, Molzon collected a loose rebound and struck it past sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE) for the eventual game-winner. The Lions controlled the remainder of the contest, holding the Griffins to zero shots and only one corner kick opportunity in the second half.
Junior goalkeeper Shealyn Sullivan (Buffalo, NY) totaled three saves in the win (10-7-2) for the Lions while Veazey made seven saves in the loss (13-4-2) for Chestnut Hill College. The Griffins finish the season 14-4-2 overall; the best record in program history.
