Lewis’ Kranczicki And Lanstiak Ranked In ITA Women’s Tennis Regional Poll

Kranczicki ranked second, while Lanstiak tabbed third overall in ITA preseason rankings.

Romeoville, Ill. – Lewis University freshmen Zsofia Kranczicki (Eger, Hungary/Szilagyi Erzsebet Gimnazium es Kollegium) and Zsofia Lanstiak (Budapest, Hungary/Karinthy Frigyes Gimnazium) made quite the impression upon the rest of the region in their first semester in Romeoville, as the Hungarian natives are ranked second and third in the Midwest Region in the ITA Women’s Tennis Preseason Poll, announced on Tuesday (Nov. 9).

Kranczicki impressed in her collegiate debut, as she advanced all the way to the ITA Midwest Regional Singles championship and finished the Fall with a record of 7-2. She is also ranked 36th in the nation for singles play.

Lanstiak advanced to the semifinals of the regional championship, but was forced to retire because of a wrist injury. She is ranked 43rd in the country as an individual after finishing the Fall with a mark of 5-1.

“It is really awesome to get into the preseason rankings,” Lewis head men’s tennis coach Brett Bridel said. “I believe that (the national rankings) are a reflection of how our program is building and moving in the right direction.

“As long as we continue to work hard, stay focused and remain together as a team, we will keep moving forward.”

Lewis opens the spring campaign on March 2nd, as they square off with Lake Superior State in Orlando, Fla.
