Romeoville, Ill. - The Lewis University men's basketball team wraps up the exhibition campaign on Sunday (Nov. 7), as the Flyers head to Lincoln Park to square off with Division I DePaul for a 6 p.m. start at McGrath Arena.
The game will be broadcast on WJOL 1340 and will be streamed live on LewisFlyers.com with Mark Vasko providing the play-by-analysis. DePaul will provide video streaming for the contest and the link can also be found on LewisFlyers.com.
Head Coaches: Lewis head men's basketball coach Scott Trost is in his fifth season at the helm of the Flyers and has a record of 68-49 (.581). In 13 seasons of coaching, Trost owns a mark of 221-134 (.621). DePaul head coach Oliver Purnell is in his first season as the Blue Demons head coach and owns a career record of 394-280 in 22 campaigns.
Last Time We Met: DePaul scored 19 of the game's first 23 points, as the host Blue Demons staved off a late Lewis rally and held off the Flyers for the 66-53 exhibition victory at McGrath Arena on November 7, 2008. Freshman Marty Strus was a perfect 6-for-6 and finished with 12 points and six rebounds.
Last Time Out: Lewis put quite the scare into No. 13 Illnois, as Fighting Illini held on for the 75-65 win over the visiting Flyers on October 29th. Senior guard Dennis Thomas, Jr., led three Flyer players in double-figures with 13 points, followed by Chris McClellan (12) and Strus (10).
Dead Eye: McClellan currently sits as Lewis' all-time leader in free throw percentage, knocking down 89.6% (112-for-125) of his attempts.
Welcome Back: Redshirt junior forward Lonnie Lawrence returns to the Lewis line-up after missing the entire 2009-10 campaign after tearing his left anterior cruciate ligament for the second time in his Flyer career.
1,000-Point Club: Thomas needs 85 points to reach 1,000 tallies for his career.
Well, Hello Again: Trost served as an assistant coach for former Michigan head coach and current Blue Demon assistant Brian Ellerbe from 1997-2001.
Block Party: Strus needs 37 blocks this season to break the career-record of 140 set by Austin Real (2000-04). In each of his first two seasons, Strus has broken the single-season record for blocks with 54 in 2009-10 and 50 in 2008-09. Strus is also the leading returning shot-blocker in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
Making `Em Count: Strus also owns the top returning field goal percentage in the GLVC, as the Hickory Hills, Ill., native knocked down 60.5% (98-for-162) of his shots in 2009-10.
New Number: Sophomore guard David Bryant has changed his number from 14 to 12 in honor of his late brother Kevin who played for Trost at Illinois Wesleyan from 2004-06.
Good Genes: Sophomore forward Matt Toth chose a different athletic path than his father Tom. Tom Toth played five years in the National Football League, including starting 12 games at right guard for Dan Marino and the Miami Dolphins in 1987.
My Kind Of Town: The last time that Lewis played in the `Windy City', the Flyers came away with a 65-55 exhibition victory over UIC at the UIC Pavilion on November 10, 2009.
Newfound Depth: Depth proved to be an issue for the Flyers in 2009-10, as seven Flyer players averaged at least 21.5 minutes-per-game. In the Flyers' upset bid of Illinois on October 29th, 10 different players saw at least 12 minutes of action.
Watch Lewis Live: For the third-straight season, fans can watch the Flyers live on Lakeshore Public Television, as the Flyers' contests against Quincy on January 8th and Indianapolis on January 15th will be broadcast. Each game is slated to start at 7:45 p.m.
