LADY BRONCOS SCORE OPENING WIN AT CIAA VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT

HAMPTON, VA - Fayetteville State opened its 2010 CIAA Volleyball Championship play with a straight-sets win over Virginia State at a game played Friday morning at the Boo Williams Sportsplex.

Fayetteville State, the #2 seed in the southern division, defeated Virginia State, the #3 seed in the north, 25-16, 25-18, and 25-21.

FSU's three All-CIAA performers led the way for the Lady Broncos. Outside hitter Samantha Weeks led the Lady Broncos with eight kills and three aces. She also had 11 digs. Setter Achari Mainor<http://www.fansonly.com/schools/fast/sports/w-volley/mtt/mainor_achari00.html> had 15 assists. And Ifeyinwa Nwokolo<http://onlyfans.cstv.com/schools/fast/sports/w-volley/mtt/nwokolo_ifeyinwa00.html> led both teams with a strong .312 attack percentage. All-Rookie team member JaMisha Jordan led the team with 21 digs.

For Virginia State, Jasmine Davis and Nikkisha Walker had five kills apiece. All-Rookie team member Jasmine Henderson led the team with 12 assists and two service aces. Brooke Wilson and Walker had nine digs apiece.

The two teams will continue in pool play later today. Fayettville State, which has advanced to the last three CIAA Tournament finals, will take on Livingstone at 1 p.m., while Virginia State will take on Elizabeth City State at 3 p.m. At 7 p.m. FSU will take on ECSU while VSU will take on Livingstone at 5 p.m.
