Kukura Claims Another Postseason Accolade, Named to All-West Region First Team

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – Senior defender Jared Kukura of the UCSD men’s soccer team earned Daktronics/NCAA Division II All-West Region First Team honors, it was announced Tuesday.

Kukura, who was named 2010 California Collegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Defensive Player two weeks ago, started all 18 of UCSD’s matches and led his team with four goals, eight points and a .250 shooting percentage. A stalwart on the Triton backline, Kukura led a defense that ranked second-best in the CCAA with a .89 goals against per game average and nine shutouts. He earned CCAA Player of the Week honors in lieu of his two-goal performance in a 3-2 overtime victory over Chico State on Oct. 15, a game in which he provided the game-winning score in the first overtime.

UCSD finished the year in third place in the CCAA South Division with an 8-6-4 overall record and an 8-5-3 record in CCAA play. The Tritons put together an eight-match unbeaten streak midway through the season, a span in which they outscored opponents 12-3.
