Kawadler Heads List of Three Bentley Falcons Named to ESPN Academic All-District Team

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Senior center and captain Jared Kawadler (Sharon/Xaverian Brothers HS) tops a list of three Bentley University football players named to the 2010 ESPN Academic All-District 1 team (college division) by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  It’s the third straight year that he has been chosen.

Also selected were teammates John Malone (Walpole/Walpole HS), a senior wide receiver and captain, and Mark Dolan (Barrington, R.I./Barrington HS), a senior linebacker. Malone earned the honor for the second time, and Dolan is making his first appearance on the team.

After earning district honors, all three will advance to the national ballot for ESPN Academic All-America® consideration.

District one includes the six New England states and New York, and the college division includes both Division II and III institutions.

Bentley was one of only four institutions that had three or more representatives on the All-District 1 college division team, the others being MIT, Rensselaer and Amherst College.

The honor is the latest for Kawadler, a third-year starter who anchors the Falcon offensive line. Last year, he received the Northeast-10 Sport Excellence Award in football, presented to the conference’s premier student-athlete. In the classroom, he’s amassed a lofty 3.89 grade point average while majoring in both economics-finance and liberal studies.

Kawadler has helped the Bentley offense produce 29.1 points and 387.5 yards per game this season, with a rushing game that produces 4.4 yards per carry.  The O-line has yielded only eight sacks in eight games, an average of just one every 34 passing plays.

Malone tops the receiving list for Bentley with 38 catches for 434 yards and five touchdowns. His next reception will be the 100th as a Falcon, and his career totals also include 1,120 yards and nine TDs.  Academically, he has earned a 3.56 GPA as an economics-finance major.

Dolan has averaged nine tackles a game while missing a couple due to injury this fall. Featured was an 18-tackle effort back in week two against Central Connecticut State. He’s been in on 1.5 sacks this fall and has also been credited with three pass break-ups. As a student, he’s posted a 3.51 GPA while majoring in marketing.

All three have one game left in their collegiate careers. Bentley, 4-4 after stringing together three straight victories, closes out the season Nov. 13 at home against Stonehill College.
