Kaiser one of 24 Candidates for D2 Heisman

Harlon Hill Trophy
34 Plays of 40 Yards or More

Kearney, Neb. – Nebraska-Kearney senior wide receiver Kyle Kaiser is one of 24 candidates for the 2010 Harlon Hill Trophy, the Division II version of the Heisman.

The list of candidates was announced today by the National Harlon Hill Awards Committee. The list includes six players from each of Division II’s four Super Regionals.  Sports information directors from Division II’s 148 football-playing schools nominate candidates and then a Hill Regional Advisory Committee trims the list to no more then 24 candidates.

The top two vote getters from each region advance to the national ballot when voting concludes November 19th. The Harlon Hill Trophy winner will be announced December 17th at an awards ceremony in Florence, Ala.

One of the nation’s top receivers the past three years, Kaiser (Broomfield, Colo./Broomfield H.S.) is joined on the Super Regional 3 ballot by Colorado School of Mines junior QB Clay Garcia, Colorado State-Pueblo junior RB Jesse Lewis, Michigan Tech senior RB Phil Milbrath, Hillsdale (Mich.) senior QB Troy Weatherhead and Wayne State (Mich.) junior RB Josh Renel.

Also a punt and kick returner, Kaiser currently has 47 receptions for 1,072 yards and 12 TD’s. He ranks 4th nationally in yards per catch (22.80), is tied for 7th in receiving scores and is 17th in receiving yards per game (107.2). Kaiser also has 15 punt returns for 66 yards, has brought back eight kicks for 164 yards and even thrown a pass on a fake field goal.

In his career, which includes starting the past three seasons, Kaiser has 149 catches for 3,325 yards (22.32 ypc) and 38 TD’s. Adding in special teams, he has amassed 5,108 all-purpose yards and has had 34 plays of 40 yards or more (30 catches and four returns).

He ranks second in Loper history in receiving yards and receiving TD’s while being 4th in career receptions. Finally, Kaiser is one of three UNK players to reach 5,000 all-purpose yards.

Only four other Lopers have made the Harlon Hill list; receiver/return specialist Doug Banks (1990), quarterback Justin Coleman (1999 & 200), running back Mike Miller (2003) and receiver Richie Ross (2005). Coleman made the national ballot twice, finishing sixth in 1999 and runner up in 2000.

The 2009 Harlon Hill winner was Wayne State (Mich.) running back Joique Bell, who recently signed a free agent contract with the Indianapolis Colts.  For more information, log on to www.harlonhill.com.
