HPU Women’s Basketball Opens Season With Win Over Adams State

Honolulu, HI (11/13/10) – The HPU women’s basketball team opened the 2010-11 season with a dominating win over reigning Rocky Mountain Conference champion Adams State College. The Sea Warriors topped the Grizzlies 92-72 for arguably the most impressive win in the history of the program. The game was played at the Neal Blaisdell Center.

Paris Gravely led all scorers with 19 points on 7-10 of shooting. Katelyn Urquhart  recorded 13 points and eight rebounds off the bench and Jazzmin Awa-Williams shot 5-6 from the floor for 12 points.

Chloe Cable led Adams State (0-1) with 14 points.

It was the first season opening win for the Sea Warriors, who shot 70% from the field in the second half. After falling behind early, HPU took off on a 19-3 run to grab a 46-31 halftime lead. The advantage swelled to 75-47 after a pair of Gravely layups.

Taiyande Huskey scored 11 points and added four assists in her first game as a Sea Warrior, and Sky Savini added 11 points off the bench.

HPU next travels to California for a trio of non-conference games. The Lady Sea Warriors open against Cal State Monterey Bay on Tuesday, November 16, before playing in the Coslet Classic hosted by Chico State. Start time with CSUMB is set for 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
