HPU Women’s Basketball Falls To Cal State Monterey Bay

Seaside, CA (11/16/10) – In its first road game of the season, the HPU women’s basketball team fell to Cal State Monterey Bay, 71-49. The Sea Warriors fall to 1-1 on the season while CSUMB wins its season opener.

Jazzmin Awa-Williams led HPU with 12 points on 5-10 shooting, with Skye Savini adding 12 points off the bench.

HPU remained close for most of the first half. Trailing by just three points with 6:34 remaining, the Sea Warriors saw Monterey Bay close the half on a 13-5 run. The lead slowly swelled in the second half and after a three pointer by Erika Ward with 12:21 to play, the Otters led 51-36.

Courtney Buster posted six points and 10 rebounds for HPU, and Taiyande Huskey added nine points.

HPU next travels to Chico, California to play in the Coslet Classic. First up will be Sonoma State University. Start time with the Seawolves is set for 4:00 p.m. Pacific Time.
