Graves and Uland Selected First Team ESPN Academic All-District

PORTALES, N.M.—  For the third time in his careers, the duo of Karlton Graves (Sr., OT, Brownwood, Texas/Brownwood HS) and Nathan Uland (Sr., LB, Denton, Texas/Ryan HS) have been selected First Team ESPN Academic All-District 6, for their outstanding efforts on the field and in the classroom. Both garnered first-team honors for the 2008 and 2009 season as well.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative GPA of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, play in a minimum of half of the team’s contests and have been on the team at the institution for a minimum of a year.

A political science major, Graves has played in 39 games over his four seasons with the Greyhounds. His blocking helped transition Eastern from one of the top rushing offenses in the country to one of the most prolific passing teams in history. Graves’ presence have helped the ENMU offense cut back on sacks allowed by almost a full sack per game from last season, while reaching the century mark in rushing for the first time since the 2007 season.

Uland, a finance major, is tied for 44th in the country and seventh in the Lone Star Conference with 8.7 tackles per game. He also has a fumble recovery, interception and seven tackles for a loss this season. Against 22nd-ranked Midwestern State, he made 15 tackles, with eight solo stops. Over the last three contests, Uland has made 20 tackles, with 17 solo stops and recovered a fumble. For his career, Uland has appeared in 41 games and made 337 tackles, recovered five fumbles, blocked two kicks and made 34.5 tackles for a loss.

The Eastern New Mexico University football team will open their final road swing of this season this Saturday, when they travel to Northeastern State for the final Lone Star Conference game of the year. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. MST.
