Lynn Volleyball Places Three Seniors on Academic All-District Teams

BOCA RATON – Lynn University’s volleyball team placed three members on the ESPN Academic All-District Team as announced by CoSIDA Thursday afternoon.  Kala Abdell and Devon Woolard received first team honors while Lacy Redwine garnered third team recognition.  Abdell and Woolard are eligible for Academic All-America status.

Abdell, who sports a 4.0 grade point average in advertising and public relations, is a first time Academic All-District nominee.  A native of Royal Palm Beach, Fla., she has recorded 158 kills and 51 total blocks this season.  She ranks third on the team with 2.70 points per set while her 2.29 kills per set are fourth on the Fighting Knights.  The senior was named the Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 1 for her performances in wins over Barry and Nova Southeastern.

For the third-straight season, Woolard, who has accumulated a 4.0 grade point average in business administration, has been named a first team selection.  She is just the second player in Lynn history to be a three-time Academic All-District honoree.  Woolard has tallied 865 assists this year, averaging out to 9.61 per set which ranks fifth in the SSC.  The Delray Beach, Fla., native is not a one-trick pony, as she also ranks among the Lynn leaders in digs and blocks.  Earlier this season, Woolard, who owns the program-record for assists, became just the second 1,000/1,000 player in Lynn history.  Woolard has collected 4,342 assists and 1,113 digs in her career.

A senior out of New Braunfels, Texas, Redwine earned third team honors despite collecting second team accolades last season.  Redwine, who is just five digs away from breaking the Lynn career record, has collected 538 digs this season, averaging out to 5.98 per set to rank eighth in the nation.  Earlier this year, she recorded 35 digs in a three-set win over Palm Beach Atlantic, a Division II season-high for a three-set match.

The senior trio and the Fighting Knights close out their home portion of the regular season schedule as they take on Eckerd and No. 3 Tampa this weekend.  The Tritons are in town Friday, November 5, at 7pm.  Tampa comes to Boca on Saturday, November 6, at 4pm.  Fans can follow the action by logging on to www.LynnFightingKnights.com and clicking on “Game Central.”
