GCU Senior Night is Friday

Grand Canyon University will celebrate the career of two seniors when it finishes the women’s volleyball season this weekend against Dixie State at Antelope Gymnasium.

Outside hitter Megan Toth (Phoenix, AZ, Arcadia) and middle hitter Tommyka Henry (Phoenix, AZ, Alhambra, Mesa Community College) will play their final match at 4 p.m. Saturday. On Friday, the two will be recognized on Senior Night, starting at 6 p.m.

“Along with playing volleyball at Grand Canyon, you hope they’ve learned lessons about life that they can use in the future,” said GCU coach Kris Naber. “(Senior Night) is always a sad moment and an exciting moment.”

Toth is a four-year player from Phoenix, who prepped at Arcadia High School. In her career, she totaled over 700 kills (758) and is one dig away from 600 for her career. As a sophomore, she had a career-best 21 kills in a match against Dixie State.

“It’s been a good experience and I’m going to miss it, but I’m ready to open the next chapter in my life,” Toth said.

Henry played high school volleyball at nearby Alhambra before playing two years at Mesa Community College. Her totals for kills (80) and total blocks (43) are higher than from her junior year and she is second on the team in solo blocks with nine.

“I’ve grown as much as a person and a player (at GCU),” Henry said. “My experience has exceeded all expectations.”
