ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon women’s volleyball team appeared in the fifth spot of the NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings for the fourth straight week as announced by the NCAA on Wednesday evening.
NCAA Tournament participants are determined by the final NCAA regional rankings, released on Sunday, November 14. The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC), West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WVIAC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) champions receive automatic bids. The next five teams in the final regional rankings will receive at-large bids to complete the eight team field.
Edinboro (26-3, 23-3) reclaimed the top spot in the region after dropping to No. 2 in last week’s release. Clarion (25-4, 24-4) moves to the second spot followed by California (Pa.) (21-10, 21-7), Wheeling Jesuit (25-4, 22-2) and Gannon (20-8, 19-8)
Indiana (Pa.) (20-10, 20-10), Lock Haven (19-9, 18-8), Mercyhurst (16-14, 16-14), Kutztown (19-10, 19-10) and West Chester (23-11, 23-11) round out the ten teams.
The records listed include matches played through Monday, November 8 and do not include results from PSAC Tournament matches that took place Tuesday, November 9.
Gannon finished last weekend 2-0 by defeating Clarion and Slippery Rock to close out regular season play. The Lady Knights then suffered a loss to Clarion in the opening round of the PSAC Tournament.
