PENSACOLA, Fla. - Game notes are available for this weekend's UWF Thanksgiving Classic, hosted by the University of West Florida women's basketball team. The Argonauts will host Henderson State on Friday and Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. Both games start at 4 pm. USC Aiken will also participate in the event.
UWF GOES 2-0 AT TIP-OFF CLASSIC
The Argonauts went 2-0 at the UWF Tip-off Classic last weekend, scoring a pair of double-digit victories. UWF downed Allen, 80-39, on Friday night before winning a hard-fought battle over Montevallo, 55-41, on Saturday.
YOUNG NAMED TIP-OFF CLASSIC MVP
Senior Jessica Young was named MVP of the UWF Tip-off Classic after averaging 10.5 ppg and 12.5 rpg in two wins. Young’s big effort was in the Montevallo victory, when she collected 16 points and 14 rebounds. Junior Octavia Bearden also garnered All-Tournament honors after scoring 16 points against Allen.
THREE-POINT STREAK SNAPPED
West Florida did not hit a three-point field goal in the Montevallo game on November 20, going 0-for-5 from long range. UWF’s last game without a three-point basket came on December 2, 2008, a 59-52 win over the University of Mobile. The Argos had dialed long distance at least once in each of their last 50 games.
3-0 START - A SIGN OF THINGS TO COME?
With the win over Montevallo, West Florida moves to 3-0 for the first time since 2005-06, when they finished 23-7 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA South Regional.
