FSU Trio Named First-Team All-CIAA

Mainor, Meeks and Nwokolo get top honors; three other FSU players named

FAYETTEVILLE, NC ‑- Make them three-time All-CIAA First Team selections.

Fayetteville State seniors Achari Mainor (Antioch, CA) and Samantha Meeks (Sr., Laurinburg, NC) were named to the 2010 All-CIAA First Team for the third consecutive year on Wednesday. They were joined by teammate Ifeyinwa Nwokolo (So., Greensboro, NC) as a first-team selection. The selections were made by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association

Mainor came to Fayetteville State in 2007 as a middle blocker, but since that time has become one of the premier setters in the CIAA. She is currently third in the CIAA in assists this season, with 7.56 per set. On Sept. 29, 2009, against Southern Virginia, Mainor recorded a staggering 48 assists in a single match, and over the course of her career has totaled more than 3,200 assists and more than 150 service aces. She was a member of the 2007 CIAA Champion Lady Broncos, and was a key player in guiding FSU to the CIAA title game twice more.

Meeks, an outside hitter, also came to Fayetteville State in 2007 as a versatile offensive force, and she’s only added to her reputation since. She has been one of the most effective offensive producers in CIAA history, totaling more than 150 aces in her career, and currently leads the CIAA in service aces in 2010 (0.83 per set). Since 2007, Meeks ranks second at Fayetteville State in kills, kills per set, assists and service attempts. She has nearly 1,000 career kills and a staggering number of attack attempts, with nearly 2,700 since 2007. Meeks, who is sixth in the CIAA this season in kills (3.11 per set), was also a member of the 2007 CIAA Champion Lady Broncos, and was a key player in guiding FSU to the CIAA title game twice more.

Nwokolo, a middle blocker, joined the Lady Broncos a year ago, and continues her ascent through the league. She is second in the CIAA in hitting percentage, is 10th in kills per set (2.58) and was recently named to the Mount Olive Classic All-Tournament team. Nwokolo has been a force for the Lady Broncos, particularly in the second half of the season.

Jessica Hardy (Fr., Fayetteville, NC), who is fourth on the team in kills (91) and fifth on the team in service aces (27), was named to the All-CIAA Second Team. So was Jasmine Stewart (Jr., Bunn, NC).

JaMisha Jordan, who ranks third in the CIAA is digs per set (2.60), was named to the CIAA’s All-Rookie Team.

Chowan's Karina Monroe was named the 2010 CIAA Player of the Year. The sophomore Hawk was also the 2009 Rookie of the Year. Monroe ranks at the top of the CIAA in hitting percentage (.311), second in blocks (0 .93 per set, 50 solo, 46 assisted) and is eighth in kills (2.69 per/set).

Whitney Green is the 2010 Rookie of the Year. Green, a freshman outside hitter from Elizabeth City State, ranks third in the CIAA in hitting percentage (.298) and is ninth in kills (2.68 per set).

The CIAA Player and Rookie of the Year and respective teams will be honored at the Volleyball Championship Banquet held at the Newport News Marriott at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the City Center, Newport News, VA.
