Falcons 13th at NCAA Southeast Region Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The University of Montevallo women’s cross country team closed out the 2010 season with a 13th place finish at the NCAA Southeast Region Championship out of 28 teams. The Falcons were led by sophomore Haley Evans (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope) and junior Katherine Schofield (Lawrenceville, Ga./Brookwood) who finished 54th and 55th, respectively. Evans ran the course with a time of 24:38.3 while Schofield had a time of 24:39.6.

Freshman In-Mi Matsunaga (Enterprise, Ala./Enterprise) came across the finish line in 74th with a time of 25:14.9. Senior January Waters (Grayson, Ga./Grayson) closed out her career with a time 25:23.5 and a 81st place finish.

Junior Ginny Davis (Madison, Ala./Bob Jones) who has battled injuries all season finished 89th overall with a time of 25:40.8.

The Falcons final two runners were junior Whitney Adkins (Conyers, Ga./Heritage) and sophomore Kaley Glover (Opelika, Ala./Beauregard) who finished 93rd and 94th, respectively.

Queens won the Championship with a score of 40 while the top PBC school was Columbus State University who finished third just one point behind second.

The Falcons say goodbye to their lone senior January Waters who has been with the team for four years. All the rest of the Falcons will return to action for the 2011 season with plans to move up in the regional rankings and contend for a PBC Title.
