DiGiovanni Named CACC’s Top Rookie; Griffins Land Five on All-CACC Team

Lafayette Hill, PA – (11/1/2010) – Freshman midfielder Carly DiGiovanni (Seaville, NJ) headlined a host of Griffins on the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) All-Conference Team, with the a First Team selection and the league’s Rookie of the Year title. Three Griffins joined DiGiovanni on the CACC First Team, while sophomore defender Amanda Botbyl (Mays Landing, NJ) earned Second Team status. Junior forward Kelly Lyons (Jackson, NJ) of Georgian Court University was named the CACC Player of the Year, Wilmington University’s Head Coach Josh Ruggerio earned the CACC Coach of the Year title, and Nyack College was recognized with the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award.

DiGiovanni was second leading scorer for Chestnut Hill College (13-3-2, 10-1-1) this season with 12 points, as she totaled four goals and four assists in her freshman campaign. She recorded the game-winner for the Griffins in a 1-0 victory at Nyack College on October 16, helping her to her second CACC Rookie of the Week Award. DiGiovanni was named the CACC Rookie of the Week on October 18 and September 8, and she was joined on the CACC First Team by sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Veazey (Middletown, DE), junior defender Lauren Brown (Dover, DE), and junior forward Lauren Riiff (Clementon, NJ).

Riiff earns her third consecutive all-conference selection with her second straight appearance on the All-CACC First Team. She finished the season among the top three in seven CACC offensive categories including first in shots (77), shots-per-game (4.81), and points-per-game (2.00). Riiff matched her best season point-total with 32 this season, while setting a career mark with 14 goals. She was named the CACC Player of the Week on September 21 and she earned honorable mentions for the award on September 28, October 5, and October 12.

Brown and Veazey anchored a Griffin defensive unit that held opponents to 14 goals over 17 games and recorded five shutouts. Brown repeats as a CACC First Team selection, supporting her reputation as one of the league’s top defenders. She scored her first goal as a Griffin with the game-winner in Chestnut Hill College’s 2-0 defeat of Concordia College on September 18. Veazey finished third in the CACC in goals-against-average (0.74) and save percentage (.868) while accumulating a 12-3-2 record. She finished seventh in the CACC for saves with 79.
