Catawba's Owens set American Paralympic Record in 1000 free

Catawba sophomore Ashley Owens (Stockbridge, GA/Stockbridge HS) highlighted a pair of swim meets over the weekend for the Catawba Indians as she broke an American Paralympic Record in the 1000 free with a swim of 10:44.68 against Limestone on Saturday. The time broke the previous mark by nearly a full second. The time was the second fasted in school history and was also a NCAA II “B” cut time.

Owens and Katie Huff (Richfield, NC/N. Stanly HS) each won three evens over the weekend. Owens won the 200 and 500 free vs. Pfeiffer on Friday and the 1000 free against Limestone. Huff took first in the 100 breast in both meets then added a win at Limestone in the 200 breast.

Against Limestone, Lindsay Yarborough (Lexington, NC/C. Davidson HS) picked up a win in the 200 back. Catawba’s women also claimed relay wins at Pfeiffer in the 400 free and 400 medley, while taking the 200 medley relay at Limestone. Freshman Taft Kallam (Randleman, NC/Randleman HS) posted the lone win for the men over the weekend as he touched first against Pfeiffer in the 100 back.
