Bloomsburg University Women's Soccer Team Falls in NCAA Second Playoff Game

WEST CHESTER—The Bloomsburg University women’s soccer team saw its season come to an end on Sunday with a 2-0 loss to West Chester in the second round of the NCAA playoffs.

The teams played to a scoreless first half with the Huskies managing two shots compared with five for the Golden Rams with one of the shots for West Chester hitting the post.

West Chester finally broke through in the second half scoring at the 52:01 mark on a goal by Sarah Oswald with Jen Gangl getting the assist.

Bloomsburg had a scoring chance in the 72nd minute on a corner kick, but Katie Walczuk's (Long Valley, NJ, West Morris Central) header was high. Later in the 82nd minute Samantha Fox (Southampton, William Tennet)had a shot that was saved by the WCU goalie keeping it a 1-0 game.

West Chester put the game away with a goal in the 86th minute when Melissa McKeary scored off an Oswald assist for a 2-0 final.

Bloomsburg head coach Sandy Dickson was proud of her.

“I am very proud of the way our whole team played,” said Dickson. “I am especially proud of how hard our seniors played and wish we could have gone further. West Chester though is a great team.”

The Huskies end their season with a mark of 13-5-3. West Chester is now 18-1-2 (its only loss is to Bloomsburg back in September) and will advance to the NCAA regional final.
