Jaguars disqualified after final round at CordeValle

AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Augusta State was disqualified Wednesday at the conclusion of the third and final round of the Gifford Collegiate Championship at CordeValle Resort in San Martin, Calif.

After junior Patrick Reed withdrew with a wrist injury and senior Carter Newman was disqualified for signing an incorrect scorecard, the Jaguars were left with only four counting scores in the play-six, count-five scores format. The Jags, who entered the final round in ninth place, were credited with a last-place finish in the 12-team field.

The tournament marked the end of the 2010 portion of ASU’s schedule. The Jags return to competition Feb. 13-15, 2011 in the Battle at The Beach at Pelican Hill Golf Club in Newport Coast, Calif.

ASU senior Henrik Norlander carded a 1-under 70 and finished at 2-under 211 (68-73-70) and in a tie for second with Oregon’s Daniel Miernicki, four strokes behind medalist Patrick Cantlay of UCLA.

Junior Taylor Floyd registered a 1-over 72 and moved up into a tie for 44th. Senior Olle Bengtsson, playing in his first event of the fall season, turned in a 3-over and tied for 48th. Senior Mitch Krywulycz finished in a tie for 63rd after a final-round 79.

Tourney host UCLA shot an 8-under 347 -- the best round of the day by 19 shots -- and posted a 13-stroke victory over Stanford. The Bruins entered the final round trailing the Cardinal by 11 shots. Northwestern was third and Southern California and Washington tied for fourth.
